The few weeks after Christmas and New Year can be bleak, with many of us watching the pennies through January and recovering from the seasonal festivities. However, there aren’t many other things that can cheer you up as much as booking a trip to somewhere new. Escape the doom and gloom of the January blues and start hunting for your next holiday.

Trondheim, Norway

Trondheim is Norway’s third largest city, and is the country’s historical capital. It is home to around 30,000 students who contribute to the many goings on in the area, and are a huge part of the culture of Trondheim itself. Dubbed one of the most photogenic areas of Norway, it is home to a great choice of cafes, restaurants and museums.

The capital of Switzerland, the old town portion of Bern is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Bern has a laidback air about it, with a friendliness often found in smaller towns. If panoramic views are more your thing, the Berner Munster is the largest sacred building in Switzerland and has a 100m tower that you can climb.

February sees temperatures between 2 and 8 degrees with a chance of rain and snow, so wrap up warm and enjoy your winter getaway.

If you were hoping to escape freezing temperatures and search for winter sun, Singapore’s warm and tropical climate could be just what you’re looking for. The average temperature in Singapore through February is around 27-30 degrees, so stocking up on summer-friendly vests is a must.

Take in the art deco style of the city, rent a kayak or paddleboard on Biscayne Bay, visit contemporary art museums or simply just relax amongst nature. It’s a great alternative destination for some sun, offering another option to the usual choice of the Canary Islands or Dubai.
